There is a short each morning. where the market is still finding its rhythm.
At around 6am in Pekanbaru, the light is soft and the streets are quieter than you’d expect. The sky still holds the last colours of night, and most of the movement feels unhurried, like the day hasn’t fully decided to begin.

Vendors are already there. Sitting beside their produce, arranging what they’ve brought in, waiting for the first customers. There’s no urgency yet, just routine, repeated every day.

As the light slowly shifts, the market starts to come alive. Stalls glow under a mix of artificial light and early sun, and more people begin to arrive. The quiet gives way, little by little.
And then there are the small moments, a smile, a glance, a simple interaction. These are easy to miss once the market is busy, but in the early hours they stand out.
Not everything moves at the same pace. A cat rests on a motorbike. People sit outside, watching the day build. Life continues in its own rhythm, alongside the growing energy.

By mid-morning, this place is completely different, louder, faster, full of movement. But for a brief time, it feels like something else entirely.
Before the noise, there is a quieter version of the same place.
